Art Exhibit After the Blast: The Art of Levi Nelson
Date: Oct 31, 2019 - Nov 07, 2019
Arts Whistler is honoured to present After the Blast: The Art of Levi Nelson, on Nelson’s traditional territory of the Lil'wat First Nation in Whistler. Nelson paints his surroundings as he instinctively feels, with one foot fully engaged in the traditions of his Lil'wat heritage and the other toe dipped in the education system as Levi pursues his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Nelson credits many influences including artists Bill Reid, Fritz Scholder, Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun, the Indian Group of Seven, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, as well as the essay “Construction of the Imaginary Indian” written by Marcia Crosby in 1991.
